Based on the Charter of the Indian Institute of Religious Studies, the Chair for Christian Studies & Research has the following aims and objectives:

The Motto of CCSR is "Let your light shine".

Its mission: To engage in scientific and scholarly research and study in Christian Theology, philosophy and counselling Psychology.

To study, promote Christian heritage in the country and introduce it to the society.

To study Christianity with comparative study of other religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam, as well as current philosophical thought. Research in social change and National development also are its specializations.

To conduct courses and seminars, symposia, in these topics.

To engage in scientific and scholarly research and study in Christian Theology and Philosophy, the Chair for Christian Studies and Research was established at the University of Calicut in Kerala, India in 1986.
